Week 4A: Aesthetics, Design and Branding

In 2019, image is everything. It is not only how you present yourself to the world but also how the world views your worth. While this is ridiculous and leads to unnecessary vanity, it is reality and it is important to put the best version of one’s self out there for other people to see. The place where all of this advertising exists is the Internet and on it is a wide spectrum of personal content that can either be good, bad or ugly.

One of the websites that falls under the ugly category is “gatesnfences.com”. One of the worst parts of it that sticks out the most is the name itself “Gates N Fences”. It is generic and does nothing to grab the visitor’s attention or cling to memory. The next problem is that although there is contrast throughout the website it’s more abrasive than attracting. Lastly is that the website is hard to navigate because of the disorganized categories on the left side of the page. In order to fix this website, it would almost need to be completely redone. If the categories were more organized it would make it much easier to organize.

The other website that has a lot of problems is “pennyjuice.com”.  The first problem is that there is no alignment or order to the page, which makes it hard to understand what it’s are selling. Another problem is the proximity between topics on the home page because of how separated each area is. One more problem is that there is no indication what the penny means. It might be a logo, it might be a cost, but it is unclear. To fix this website they need to change it to better contrasting colors and also maybe give a clear mission statement or “about us” section that really describes what is going on, on this site. I really hope that this is not a real website made by an editing and marketing team.

Apple is one of the websites that really has everything going right. The name of the brand aside, everything on the page is crisp, concise and visually appealing. It is easy to navigate and the pictures alone inspire a fiendish itch to get a hold of their product. Because Apple and all of it’s products have been ingrained in our society for decades, one can’t help but recognize it and immediately form some kind of connection to it.

Toyota’s website also checks off all the necessary qualifications for a great and attractive brand. The website is easy to navigate and the white background with black and red font, help the visitor decipher what is important and more information on it. It is also geared towards first time users, with new car ads, as well as continuous owners, with links to “ToyotaCare” and convenience.

Till next time...x
